SUGAR RUN tells the story of a woman sent to prison for murder at 17, released 18 years later, and her struggle to create a new life in the rugged mountains of Appalachia with her newfound love, a single mother of four children living in a single motel room.

In addition to her many literary awards, she is an Assistant Professor of the Practice of Creative Writing at Duke University and also serves as a National Endowment of the Arts Writing Fellow at the federal prison camp in Alderson, West Virginia.
