He has toured as a tenor saxophonist, played with the Rock Bottom Remainders (Stephen King, Amy Tan, Mitch Albom, Dave Barry & others), sold over three million copies in sixteen languages, and had his books rendered on the big screen. Along the way he was presented the National Humanities Medal by the President of the United States, won the Stephen Sondheim Award, and the National Book Award.
