A GOOD AMERICAN remains a store favorite. This poignant, funny and heartbreaking tale follows a German immigrant's family from their arrival in America, through two generations. Along the way, we meet some of the most interesting characters in literature including a teen-age giant, a gumbo-cooking jazz musician, a bicycle-riding dwarf, and a bare-knuckled prizefighter. This title has been selected as a Booksmith Timeless Classic, meaning it is among the best of the best for the last several decades. We will ship it free anywhere in the United States. ALEX GEORGE (pictured below from our Wall of Fame) is a saxophone-playing amateur chef who was named one of England's top ten writers under forty. He is now a U.S. citizen and his first book published in this country, A Good American was named Book of the Year by The Library Journal and the American Booksellers Association. It's also one of our all-time favorites and when the American Booksellers Association had a nationwide contest for bookstores selling this title, The Alabama Booksmith finished number one. Joining a new trend, this brilliant author now owns a bookstore. Thank you Alex George for signing our books.
