He was the first black football player at the University of Alabama, becoming team captain and an All American.He later became the first black coach at Alabama. WILBUR JACKSON (pictured below from our Wall of Fame) was the first black football player offered a scholarship to the University of Alabama. His career rushing record of 7.2 yards per carry still stands. Against Virginia Tech in 1973, he carried the ball 5 times for 138 yards for an incredible 27.6 average. He was a first round draft choice by the San Francisco Forty-Niners, winning a Super Bowl Championship to go along with his College National Championshp.
